When Your Horse Starts Acting Weird Consult His Vet

You should do all that you could when your horse starts to act unusual. Kathy`s Burma horse named Kit, started acting weird and as she shared on her facebook page, she immediately checked if she has any medical problem- teeth, fit, equipment etc. That`s the first thing that we all should do, before thinking that it`s horse`s attitude.

As you could see from the photos below the text, it turned out that Kit had a problem with her eyes- Corpora Nigra Cysts- and she is having eye surgery on March 14th. Those little fringy things on rare occasions can become cystic and that causes some strange, dangerous horse behavior. Why? Because the cysts block most of the pupil essential and that causes a sort of blindness. Also, while being in bright light the cysts can throw shadows into the eye. That’s why the horse might think that something is coming towards them and then they spook, rear or act weird.

Kathy noticed something strange about Kit when she started to spook and rear in her stall while the barn help was cleaning her stall. Kit was also disturbed while being in bright light and had some things above her head. Because all of that Kathy took her horse for medical check.

Remember that some horses might have the cysts and show no signs of that. Also there is a form of Corpora Nigra that is considered to be normal. So the best thing is to always consult a vet or a veterinarian ophthamologist.
